Hello Everyone,

I have a very heartwarming story to share with you today, thanks to Shari.

I received a very lovely email from Shari and she has given me permission to share it with you.

Shari writes:

"Hi Sue,

I just wanted to tell you about my experience with your sneakers pattern! My son, Clark, has cerebral palsy and dystonia. He has not been able to wear shoes for over 2 years now, due to the deformities of his feet. Shoes rubbed really bad pressure sores on his feet that took forever to heal!

I've been putting him in socks with booties over them. Now mind you, he is in high school! The kids are really good with him; but, I always like to dress him like a big guy.

When I found your pattern, I was amazed and not at all sure I could make these. My crochet skills are limited. But, I was determined to make these!

So........I finished them yesterday and he wore them to school today! He was so excited and the teachers LOVE them!

One of the other guys that my son went to school with is now in a nursing home and wants a pair! Since I am so slow (it took me the better part of 3 days, almost non stop!) I did not promise; but, said I will someday. I need time to recover from such a delicate process! lol!

You are an angel to post your patterns and I am just now discovering all that you have to offer on your website.

Thank you,
Shari"

And THANK YOU so much, Shari for sharing that story. I am so happy that Clark loved his "sneakers". That was so nice of Shari to make them for him!

I was so touched by Shari's story and, as well, so happy to know that my pattern helped to make her son so happy!

Shari also said, "Maybe there are others out there who haven't seen this pattern and would know someone who could benefit from it like my son has."

So if anyone knows of someone who would benefit as Shari's son has, please help to spread the word.

Shari is talking about my Crocheted Sneakers Slippers pattern on my Free Patterns page at http://crochetandknitting.com/patterns.htm

She made the adult size for her son and used a smaller hook, however Shari said they were still a little too big for him. I had recommended on the pattern not to go below a 3.75mm (F-5) hook as I thought that maybe it would be too hard to work with.

I find if I try to use a small hook with the worsted weight yarn it doesn't catch the yarn so well and it will tire my hand. But, maybe that's just me. So Shari said she would try a few swatches with the smaller hooks, such as 3.50mm, to 3.00 mm to check the gauge. If it does cause problems, she is going to try a swatch with a sportweight yarn and see how that would work. She said she will let me know the outcome.
