Everything in the patterns section of this site is free to read and work from. There is no account to create and nothing to download before you can start.
Where to begin
If you are new to either craft, start with the beginner patterns rather than picking whatever looks most appealing. A first project that is too ambitious is the most common reason people give up, and there is a real difference between a pattern that is simple and one that merely looks simple.
If you already crochet or knit, the pattern collections are organised by what they make – blankets, garments, accessories, toys and home pieces.
The reference pages
Two pages here get used more than any others, and both are worth bookmarking before you start a project.
The hook and needle size conversion charts translate between US, English and metric sizing, which is necessary more often than you would think – patterns come from everywhere, and the same hook has three names.
The abbreviation lists explain the shorthand that patterns are written in. Every pattern assumes you can read sc, dc, ch and sl st without being told, and a list to hand makes an unfamiliar pattern far less intimidating.
About the patterns
Some are original designs written for this site. Others are write-ups of projects worth knowing about, with the materials, sizing and technique notes you need to judge whether a project suits you before you buy yarn for it.
Each page states the yarn weight, hook or needle size, and finished dimensions where they are known. Those are the numbers that let you substitute yarn sensibly.
